1. If you are an organization of course you can save hundred of thousand or even million of dollar by adapting to Openoffice. Don’t worry about upgrading, it’s still free of charge. Using Ms Office will cost you money, even upgrading from Ms Office 2003 to Ms Office 2007 will cost you money.

2.Ms Office has many features and Openoffice don’t? before you make this sort of statement, for those who never try Openoffice i’ll recommend you to try it, for those who has tried Openoffice 6 years ago, i suggest that you try back the software and for those who had a downgrade version (1.x, and 2.x) i suggest you to upgrade to the latest version (3.x). Then you make the statement ok!

3. Openoffice support old computer with specs as low as Pentium 166 MHz processor with 128 MB of RAM meanwhile Ms office support computer with Pentium 450 MHz with 256 MB of RAM. MS office require windows Xp to run it, Openoffice can be run using windows 98. Openoffice also support for portable application meaning that you can copy the software to your USB and run it from there. This make you possible to bring your software and run it in any other computer without having to install it.

4. Openoffice interface and Ms Office 2003 interface is quite similar. If you are familiar with Ms Office interface, i bet that you can understand Openoffice interface, it is so familiar. If you expert in using Ms Office and you can’t seem to understand Openoffice interface, there are something wrong with you.

5. Openoffice can’t open Ms office file? Sorry to say but you are wrong. Latest Openoffice 3.1 can open the newest Ms Office 2007 file that end with extension like docx, xlsx or pptx. Please upgrade your software to latest version

6. Need to convert your document to PDF format? Openoffice can convert your file as ease as possible. For Ms Office, you need to download the extension first and for those who use non genuine Ms Office product, i think you know the answer. You can’t download until Microsoft validate your software as genuine.

Let see some of the comment that i found from the internet:

“OpenOffice is my company’s official productivity suite. Its cross-platform in a way that MS Office is not. For example, Word for the Mac has many different features and ways of doing things than Word for the PC. But OpenOffice on the Mac is just like OpenOffice for the PC. So it breeds familiarity with the package that is transferable to other operating systems. And we don’t worry much about file types, either. If we have to send a doc to a client, usually that’s in PDF format. Or we save as an MS Office doc if they also need to edit.”

“You hear people getting more and more excited about OpenOffice, because over the years the functionality of it has evolved and increased till it is now almost similar to Microsoft Office except for several advanced functions. If you want to say which one is a better program only based on the functions of the program, then inevitably that would be Microsoft Office, well, until Open Office surpasses Microsoft Office and adds some other advanced functions of its own..”

“In the past ( pre 2.0 days ) I would have agreed with anyone who said that open office was nice for a free application, but not quite ready for daily enterprise use. However I actually like open office 2.0 BETTER than MS Office. I write a ton of large documents most use tables for pretty formatting, and little things like their dynamic toolbar which changes the toolbar automatically based on if you are working inside a table, working in the main document, working with an image, etc”
